For websites we use basic design principles. We keep the code simple. You don't need a lot of high tech bells and whistles. Your site should be easy to use and navigate for your viewers. Lots of things moving or blinking on a page is distracting from your message. The old addage 'less is more' should apply. Principles used in print media such as newspapers and magazines are apt such as judicial use of white space. A design model that is similar to magazines and newspapers is best.
